You apply for the Spanish International Driving Permit at the DGT, online through its electronic office or in person at a Jefatura de Tráfico with an appointment. Online you need a digital certificate, electronic DNI or Cl@ve, and the permit is ready two days later, collected without an appointment. If you would rather skip all that, we apply on your behalf.

The DGT issues the IDP to people with normal residence in Spain who hold a valid Spanish licence or an EU/EEA licence registered with the DGT, and who are not banned from driving. A licence from outside the EU/EEA must be exchanged first. Also check that you need it at all: in the EU/EEA and in the 30 countries with a bilateral agreement with Spain, the licence alone is enough (Japan excepted).
You identify yourself with a digital certificate, electronic DNI or Cl@ve.
If something is missing, the DGT e-mails you (check your spam folder). You attach it under "Solicitudes realizadas anteriormente"; the data already entered cannot be changed.
The permit is ready two days after the online application at the Jefatura you selected. Go in person, without an appointment, with:
The DGT never posts the permit. Someone else can collect it with the DGT form 24 signed by you and your original or certified ID.
Book an appointment at any Jefatura or Oficina de Tráfico through the DGT electronic office and bring: form 3 "Trámites de conductores" ticking "Solicitud de permiso internacional"; your original ID; a photocopy of your Spanish licence plus the original; the photograph; and a card for the fee (cash is not accepted). The permit is normally issued on the spot, although the DGT does not publish a fixed timeframe, so it may depend on the office.
Spanish consulates do not issue the IDP. From abroad, your only route is a representative in Spain: online, authorised in the DGT Register of Powers of Attorney for this procedure; in person, with the free DGT form 24 signed by you and your documents. This is also how we work when we apply for you.
No Cl@ve, no certificate, no free morning? Send us a photo of your Spanish licence and your ID in the chat. We prepare and submit the application; you choose below whether to collect the permit at the Jefatura (two working days, no appointment) or receive it at home by certified post from a chartered gestoría with a DGT agreement (timeframe confirmed when you order). The fee is included. There is no official express procedure, so nobody can honestly promise it in 24 hours; see what is really possible in a hurry. Depending on the option you choose, the application is handled by our team or by a chartered gestoría with an agreement with the DGT. We are not the DGT and have no connection with it.
